First Things First - The State Department, NATO, and Trump's Foreign Policy
Former Political Advisor to NATO and Ambassador to Cyprus, John Koenig will give us an insider’s view of our foreign policy challenges
Now that President Trump has completed his first trip abroad, we have a chance to evaluate his approach to foreign policy with comparisons to former presidents. Our speaker will have a unique perspective on this, having served in the U.S. Foreign Service for three decades.
BIO: John Koenig’s experience in the U.S. Foreign Service spans 3 decades. He has served as Political Advisor to the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples, Italy; as Deputy Chief of Mission in Berlin, Germany; and as Deputy Permanent Representative to the U.S. Mission at NATO. Most recently Koenig served as U.S. Ambassador in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 2012 to 2015. In 2011, he received the Presidential Distinguished Service Award in recognition of the policy and leadership roles he has played in Berlin and at US NATO. He currently teaches at Whatcom Community College and the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies.
